Another blog? Why?

Why does the world need another blog? I suppose for the same reason the world needs another church. Those of us who play very minor roles in God’s kingdom could step aside for those who are more gifted, who have larger platforms, and who devote more time to something like a blog than a run-of-the-mill associate pastor at a small large church in a small large town.

But just as we don’t encourage our people to flip on TBN on Sunday morning or put up a screen and run the best of John Piper and Tim Keller on our platform during our services, I have the audacity to believe that God has the purpose for even those small stones that build up his holy house (1 Pet 2:5).

So, I don’t start this blog as a way to enlarge my platform or foolishly thinking that my blog will be better than the dozens of wonderful blogs I’m aware of (not to mention the hundreds of other wonderful blogs I’m unaware of). But what I do offer is me: my gifts, my flaws, my history, my location, and my relationship with you. Because if you’re reading this first blog, the odds are that you know me, and maybe the encouragement and perspective I bring will connect with you in a particular way.

Maybe my obedience in this small way might encourage your own similar obedience in another way. You, after all, are a holy stone just like myself, intended for a very specific purpose in God’s construction work. May we do our small, holy work well, brothers and sisters.

One final word regarding the planned rhythm for this blog. I plan on having the blog publish twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the first post will be written by me and will be a spiritual encouragement, a reflection on a biblical passage, or something relevant culturally. The second will be a compilation post, that will point you to some of the best blogs and videos that I read that week.

Thanks for coming along for the ride, fellow stone.
