Right now, Angel and I are in California working on the audiobook for Trading Faces. We would love your prayers as we help our book get into the ears of more listeners.
Books are such a great companion to summertime. Do you have any vacation plans this summer? Perhaps you hope to get some time poolside? Even if you don’t, I hope you’re able to carve out a bit of time to enjoy a few good books. Here are a few you might enjoy.
Van Gogh Has a Broken Heart by Russ Ramsey
When I first read Rembrandt is in the Wind, I fell in love with Russ Ramsey's ability to open up the world of art through a Christian perspective. I loved Van Gogh Has a Broken Heart even more. Ramsey is no mere art critic, he wants us to fall in love with the world of art and help us learn what art has to teach us about what it is to be human.
Ramsey devotes a chapter to a potpourri of artists: Van Gogh (of course), Gustave Dore, JMW Turner, Albert Bierstadt, Pablo Picasso, Artemisia Gentileschi, and Norman Rockwell (among others). Ramsey digs into these artists' stories and points to the beauty of the gospel. You’ll want a physical copy of this book so you can read it and look at the art that that is being described.
The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson
If you like fantasy fiction, Sanderson’s world building is top notch and his characters are memorable. But the series is a commitment: it’s not even finished and is already over 5,000 pages long. If you stick it out, I think you’ll thank me.
The Borrowed Life of Frederick Fife by Anna Johnston
This is a perfect poolside read. Johnston’s novel is a light and heartfelt story about the mistaken identity of a man in a local nursing home. You’ll laugh and maybe even well up.
